God definitely blesses us and answers our prayers

Boa Dia! So how did you like the photos? Just got back from the street markets. Ahh man, I love the fruits! I just cant stop talking about them! Lets see the other day I ate a fruit called Carambola. It was a huge one, and like part green and orange, your supposed to eat them when theyre like yellow. So ahh, it like burned my lips and my tongue, and my throat. But it was pretty good. just suuuuuper sour. Let me know if they have it there.
Hmm, So this week. Me and my comp, man we taught sooo many lessons. We have a lot of new people. But no one will come to church! its killing me! Me and my comp are getting along very well. As long as you follow the rules and do everything your supposed to, there is no way you can stop liking him. And definitely comp inventory is good every week. But yea, I guess you can definitely compare that to real life. that as long as we are following the commandments, and doing everything the church tells us to do. We;ll have a more happier life. Like the children's hymn Follow the Prophet.

The other day after a lunch I was asked to share the message, `what feels like every time`. and After the message, The man of the house, brought me into his room, and showed me on his bed his book of Mormon opened to the same scriptures that I did my message on. And he said, that he had been praying to the Lord all morning to have a better understanding. So I thought that was very cool, that God definitely blesses us and answers our prayers through other people.
Hmm lets see, the other week, we bought a basketball for 15 bucks, and we have been playing basketball every morning in a park near by. Man, being so much lighter definitely helps. I can alllllmost slam dunk dad! Almost there! But my comp asked the zone leaders if we can play basketball in the morning, and they told us that we arent a loud to anymore.. So... Our dreams got shot down.. Ill ask president if we can keep playing, in my next interview. But yea.
umm, is there anyone out there that would want a letter? Oh, the other day some guy got on my facebook or looked at it, and then I saw a picture, and I was like man, click on that. And it was Destinee! Man, She has definitely changed in the past couple months. Ha. Hows she doin?

Ha, you should def make a book. And yea Francisco `deaf man` got baptized and received the holy ghost. And def one of the strongest members in the ward, just looking for opportunities to help. Man, The mission is definitely going by super fast for me! too fast! Going on one year already! I dont wanna come home! yea, I definitely have a huge testimony on the atonement now. I prolly didnt even know what that word meant before the mission. Its just the people here have just been raised with apostasy. Fake churches telling them fake things. And its getting pretty hard on me, teaching the people and in the middle of the lesson theyll say something that one of there fake preachers said, and its just like. Forget everything that you have been taught in your whole life, and right now, were going to fix you. Its so sad, because its not their fault. its all these churches. Ive never been somewhere that has as many churches as they have here. billions. But were doing our best to help the people find out the truth!

I love you guys. And lemme know when you get that box out. Have a great week. and let me know anything new thats up over there. Tchau tchau

The Atonement is like a tool

Good Morning mom! Man Conference was Great! Ha! Jimmy prolly got slammed by everyone. Yea, we watched it at the church building, and man, there was a good amount of people in our small chapel! ha, and everyone was just sweating like crazy haha.
Watching General Conference

I almost died, But I payed attention the whole time! and took a lot of notes! I like the one by ummm, Kent Richards or something like that, He really brought out the Atonment and just put it in simple discription.
One of the strongest topics that we teach out here is the Atonement. Its like a tool, and everyone has it. Were just here to teach them how to use it. It can fix Anything. When people think that there is just no going back from the stuff they did in this life, teach them about the tool that they have, show them how to use it, and then watch their life get back up and going.

On the Rio Caeté
A lot of people have a testimony of Jesus Christ, But you ask them what the atonement is, and they have no idea. im so grateful for all the life changing experiences that im having out here. All the new things im learning, and all the people that I am saving. Without the atonement of Jesus Christ there would be no way we could return to our Father in Heaven.
I remember one day, I sat down on a couch in someones house, and wasnt really paying a lot of attention, but then my attention was turned to the TV, and it was some television series, and It was pretty loud and had English subtitles, and I was like hmm, Why is there English subtitles when theyre speaking English. And then I realized, they werent speaking English, they were speaking portuguese. I understood everything they were saying as if they were saying it in English! Ha! Random, But I thought it was a neat experience.
So this week weve just been getting more families ready for baptism.!I know they will all be ready to enter the waters of baptism before this month ends. Nothing really interesting happened, Just more lessons and more people to teach.

So The box never got sent, its ok. well, im going to send some photos really quick before my time ends! LOVE YOU ALL!!!! TCHAU!

I'd rather this happen than see an angel

Woot! thanks for the email mom! hah. So thisss week! Me and Elder Payne have been working like crazy. We slept in Castanhal for 2 days. and had some training from president. It was some pretty good training. So the main thing was, is that if were not baptizing every week, were doing something wrong.. So me and my comp came back to Braganca and hit the ground running, looking for people to baptize this week.

But Saturday came and it just didnt happen. And we did everything fasted prayed and just worked! and nothing. So were just like man... whats up with this. and then, Sunday comes, and were sitting in priesthood, and there is this guy sitting in the front with a tie shirt and everything, but ive never seen him before, and I was like, hes prolly just a member. But he came to our Gospel Principles class, and we asked his what his name was. But he cant speak, or hear. So he mouthed everything out. And then immediately starting doing hand movements of baptism. And we showed him a picture of Jesus being baptized. and his face lit up, and he showed us that he wanted to be baptized. And we asked him when and he said ´now´ and my heart just dropped. He already knew everything. he had pamphlets from other missionaries. And was super excited to be baptized right there and then. I wish you could have just seen the look on this mans face. But I mean, id rather this happen than see an angel. This was definitely a miracle in our eyes. So yea, I just thought Yall would like that story. miracle of the week.
I love teaching the people here. Just clap your hands in front of the door, and there almost excited to see us. Ahh come in come in. And then we just go in there and do what were here for. My favorite part in the lessons is when the spirit is at its highest and you invite everyone for baptism! And at the ends of our lessons when were marking the part of the Book of Mormon for them to read. We give the Book to the little 9 year olds in the family. Cause in most cases the parents dont know how to read. Because of the lack of education here back in the day.
Hmm, So its been raining a lot still. so my clothes are never drying. I got 2 size large shirts from my old comp, and I use those now.  cause my other ones were getting super big on me. But the Work here is doing good. And I love it here in Braganca. after this me and my comp are going to the river to chill and take pics. the river is high right now, so theres a bunch of boats docked up, sellin there loads.
Anyways, Thats great that your sharing my emails. I hope everyone that reads them is enjoying. And thats cool that you keep that stuff out, I was actually thinking about that the other day. Ahhhhh thank goodness the dew can is still there. Tell them to take care of it haha. Ah, Hunter I miss that guy. thats sweet that hes been hangin out with jims. Not the big screen?? it blew up?? ahh man... aww well haha. So yea, ill be trying to take more pics annnnd ill send some in my next email, next week of me at the river. Sounds like everything is doing great back home. Goin on 10 months here in the mish. almost a year. That sounds suuuper crazy haha. I remember saying like I was 2 weeks. ha. is going suuuper fast. But I love you mom! Thanks for everything! Give a hug to everyone back home! ha give one to hunter! But gotta go! Tchau thcau!

Im so glad im serving the Brasil, Belem Mission!!

Well, Good morning mom. Guess you forgot to write again. tudo bem, eu vo escriver voce! hmm, uma novo tranferencia e eu tenho uma compeniero novo. Nome dele é Elder Payne. E tamben ele a nosso lider de distrito. nossa.. Ele é meu melhor companiero aqui em a missao. Alright, Ill switch back to english, but next time you dont write! its going to all be in Portuguese! ha. Hes got 1 year and 4 months in the mission, so hes speaking pretty good, and definitely helping me a lot. My first American! hah. We have so many goals out here. One pday we are going to go to the beach like 30 minutes away, on the ocean, Just to take pictures of the sunrise. ive already seen pics from there, and theyre sweet. Weve got a bunch a families lined up for baptism already. Ahh man, we teach so good together. We switch off a lot, to keep the attention of the investigators. I really hope I stay with him for a while.
Hmm, this week was pretty weak cause I was showing my comp around and stuff, but lets see, the other day, we ate lunch in the house of bishop. And there was a huge fish on the table, so we eat all of it. All of it... haha, I got one eyeball and half the brain on my plate, the other half was on my comps plate. the brain wasnt so bad, but the eyeball.. nasssty, it was like eating a rock. Yea, ill never do that again.. haha.

But today, we are going to check out the river, and all the cool little shops here. its going to be sweet. And tonight we are going to Castanhal again... Man, How are we supposed to work when we have to keep spending days in another area.. aw well. But were staying 2 days up there.. And I dont even have enough clean clothes.. so im kind of stressed out. ha, but ill get over it. When I get about one year on the mission. Im going to see if i can trade some clothes with someone, or get some smaller clothes from another missionary. im now down to a size large. And i dont even know about my waist. but my pants are huuuuge haha. But its whatever, its not that big of a deal.
Its my third transfer here in braganca, and I dont want to leave. I want to stay here till at least I get a year in the mission. Its soo sweet here. I had no idea that it was on the north east coast.. Thats why all the people here are fisherman, and we eat fish every day.. But yea, MY health is amazing. Im keeping up my exercises. And still losing kilos. I know sooo much about the gospel, but I know im not even close to knowing everything.. hah. But im trying. im reading the book of Mormon in Portuguese, and im in the second chapter of Helamen. Its great, Its almost like a different view. I love that book :D. Well, I sure hope you sent my box! so it will get here maybe around when Elder Neil L. Anderson does. Hes coming to speak to us in the end of Abril. WOOT! You know what that means! Hes gunna check out the area for a Temple!! That is what weve been working for. Stakes are blowing up everywhere out here. I think we are faulting 4 or 5 more. I know it will happen, while im out here. The liahona of brasil talks about our mission in every issue. Im so glad im serving the Brasil, Belem Mission!!
Love all you guys, Hope your all doing fine. Keep living the gospel, and inviting others. Have a great week.
 Love,

His name is Elder Payne (American!!) Looking forward! So yea, im happy I stayed. I love it out here. going on my 3rd transfer in Braganca.
This past week, my fever got worse and well, I was bed sick for a day. It was awful. I ended up just putting up my hammock on the porch and laid out there. But im better now. Just have a little cough here and there. so hmmm.. ugh... the fish and rice here are getting reaallyy old.. But im still praying haha. And when your hungry, ya gotta eat. A lot of funny stuff happened this week, but I dont have much time, but its all in my journal, so ill tell yea in a year :D
But yea, the work is going good. The ward is getting stronger! Im trying my hardest to bring back inactives. Cant wait to get the new photo of the family! cough cough! :D Im tired of looked at the old one, when I was super fat. I played piano for sacrament yesterday, and will prolly continue playing for the rest of my time here. Carnival is slowly going down. Not as much iniquity in the streets now. Ugh... it was awful. But yea, Everything here is going great!
So yall went to the Dallas temple? send a pic of that please the people here love seeing wedding pics of family at the temple. Dads work is doing good?? WOOT! and thats great that your getting more hours! Ahh Destinee is going to EFY BYU siiick. congrats. Justin can do an ollie! aww, im going to cry :D everyone is just growing up haha. Ahhh I remember the days of car borrowing! Dont let him trick you with his charm! haha jk. Buuut, my camera I think is showing photos now on the computer. A lady in a photo place fixed it for me. but my comp is using it right now, cause hes getting all the photos of the transfers for him. Ill see if i can send one or 2 photos. Would you rather me send photos in email, or just wait till i get home? Im sending out letters today. Cause the postal place was closed last week due to Carnival.
But I love you mom, and I love you family. And anyone else reading this. :D Keep up the good work and the emails. I have another 20 minutes if your on. Tchau tchau

I know im doing what the Lord wants me to do.

So this week is Carnival. So its pretty crazy here and we have to change around our schedule cause everything is shutting down. The nights are super crazy. Everyone is drinking and the parks are full of parties and the whole city is just apostisia haha.
So right now I have a cold, My temperature last night was 104. But I think im getting better. I hate colds. Lets see, hmm, my miracle for this week. Well, The other night me and my comp were walking down a street to our next appointment, and this guy passed us on his bike and was staring us down, and then he turned around and biked toward us. And he got closer and said, Hey, Yall look like you know stuff about the gospel. There are so many baptisms in the World today. But which one is the right one? Ahhh, When he said this me and my comp just looked at each other and almost died!! I think any missionary would die to hear this question. and so we talked with him and marked an appointment. And hes MARRIED with his wife, and has 3 KIDS. Miracle? I think so. I know that through fasting and praying with lots of patience, that the Lord will prepare families for me to baptize. this past saturday we baptized a man, that completed a family, now theyre just preparing to get sealed in the temple. I love this work! I know im doing what the Lord wants me to do. Im learning so many new things, and skills that will help me after the mission. I cant stop thinking how much my mind has changed out here, Just being humbled and relying on the Lord.
Mom I never never paid any attention to the fruit section in walmart. But they better have half of the fruits im eating out here, or im going to go crazy when I get back. Do they at least have ´cupuacu or maracuja? If they do please let me know! Or im going to have to bring home some seeds and plant them in the backyard. Im starting to write down all the fruits I eat. The other day I ate Muruti. Its like a yellow goo. its really good with sugar. But the people here eat it without sugar. Another thing that the people eat here, and it feels like they eat it a lot, is heart of a bull. And I almost lose it every time i eat it. I say little prayers in my head to help it go down. But I EAT IT! haha. Im starting to miss american food. The fish here is getting really old…
Did you send my package yet? If yea: What did ya put in it? this is the last week of transfers, so im pretty sure one of us will go. or at least some one in the house will go. So whats new at home? Hows jimmy doin? Hows dads work? Hows your work? Hows justin?? destinee excited for summer? Anything commin up? I love all you guys! And would love to have a recent picture! All I have is that one of us in San Antonio and I was super fat. Anyways, eu te amo, e tem uma grande semana. Tchau tchau.

listen to our message

Hey mom! So I left my planner at the house... and it has all the stuff that I wanted to put in my email.. Hmmm, So this week, lets see if I can remember all that happened. Well, I remember in one of my lessons. We were teaching a man called Carlos. And we showed up at his house, and theres music blasting and a bunch of guys drinking, watching soccer. So we get Carlos and bring him to the front porch and start to teach him. And It was hard for us to hear him or for him to hear us. And like halfway through my comp gave me a scripture to read. I think it was moroni 10:5 or 6. And when he gave it to me I felt prompted to read this scripture as loud as I could. So I did. And when I finished reading. The music turned off in the house and everyone in the house is just staring at me saying stuff like, ahh, very true, very true. And we got 3 other men to come out of the house from drinking to listen to our message. And they all have baptismal dates! They just need to quit drinking.. But I know they will.
This mission has a new rule. and has been a rule for a while now. Were not allowed to baptize anyone under the age of 18 unless we baptize them with their parents. or their father. So its a challenge now. But very rewarding when we do baptize a family. So thats our main fasting and prayers, are to find elite families that are ready for baptism. Were preparing a handful of families for baptism. Those should be sweet photos :D

Hmm, I remember I was at a members house eating lunch and I was sitting at a table with the wall of the house to my back, and my comp was like Elder theres a spider behind you, and I have the biggest fear in the world how everyone knows. So I was just like, dude, I dont want to even look at it, just thinking that it was a normal spider the size of my finger nail or something, so just kill it in one hit please. And hes just sitting there laughing and freakin out, So I turn around and mom.. This spider was as big as my head. I almost tipped over the table trying to get out of there. And everyone was just laughing haha. I could have died! I hate those things.

And at a different house for lunch. I got to hold 3 parrots at one time, The colors of them were amazing. But of course I didnt have my camera on me. They were all talking to each other, It was a pretty sweet experience.

Hmm, Last week we went to Belem. It was great, President and Sister Campos are so cool. And I got to see all my friends. Elder Looper has been my best friend from the beginning. And Elder Skabelund is another American that im pretty tight with. And the rest of my friends are brasilians. its great getting to talk to your old comps too. Seeing how your old area is. and that sort of stuff! Ahh, But the highlight! I wasnt expecting a package! My comp is like cara! You got a huge package! Ahhh, Sister Burton! ha! I was starting to think I would never see peanut butter again! And she threw in a life supply of ranch!! Definitly doesnt exist here! My comp loves it! haha. But hes using wayyy too much on this stuff haha. Anyways, she also gave me a bunch of little toys to give to the kids here. I keep one toy in my bag to give to kids when they go crazy during one of my lessons. Its GREAT.
Destinee is in show choir?? I didnt know that! And she got second place? Siiick! Steve is getting married? whhhhaaaaaaaaattttttt?? Did he renew his eharmony account? haha jk. Congrats. Oh, and the only other thing that I can think of is I dont remember how to say it but, a razor machine for shaving!! If you can, You dont have to if ya dont want to. But a nice one, not a cheap one that will mess up my beautiful face :D. Im not taking as many pics as I was at the beginning of the mission. Sorry. Ill try harder. And the next time ill be able to send pics is when I get that card reader ha. So lets see how much more skinnier I can get by then!

Keep up the prayers and the letters and the packages! :D hehe, I love you guys. Love you mom! fala por jimmy que ele é uma fubecka por nao escrevindo! E agora eu sei como sentindo quando sol tem uma email por P-Day! Te amo cara! Ate proximo segunda feira! Tchau!

I know this Church is True without a doubt.

Hey mom! Alrighty ill def read those scripts. on the bus! Cause were taking a bus ride to Castanhal today (3 hours) sleeping with the ZLs and then going to Belem in the morning for zone conference (and other 3 hours) oh, the life of this area..  soo, this week. hmmm. My shoes are looking pretty cool. Theyre getting super worn out. But theyre not destroyed. Theyre super strong. but there is one problem.. There are ants here that eat the bottom of my shoes.. so at night they just feast on the bottoms of my shoes and now that I know that this is happening i spray them with bug spray every night... strange I know. I dont know if you remember last week when I said it was raining. well... The raining never stopped. It has been raining for 4 days straight. and everything flooded here. We had to cancel some of our appointments cause the river got too high, and well, it wasnt safe to adventure out to the river dwellers. But today is super sunny. and humid. When theres no sun theres no washing clothes.. so I dont know if its been cold these past couple days or just not as hot. But at night I had to use my sheet to cover me. Normally Take a shower and dont even dry off all the way. Just put on my clothes and lay down in bed for the fan to cool me. And the showers have been abnormally cold these past couple of days for the lack of the sun.. So just think waking up in the morning, your cold. now go take a freezing cold shower. Definitely turning into a more stronger person. So there are still indians living! no doubt. They still practice the same culture. and same things.. me and my comp were walking past a part of the area with just huts. and there were like 5 indians sitting in a circle. With red faces. smoking..  There just very peaceful. It feels like they have no idea whats going on in the world. was super strange to see this in real life. But im pretty much famous out here. I get stopped on the street people just asking where im from, or what I do. Perfect oportunidades  to make contacts. So yea, i still look american. And im hitting my 8 month mark tomorrow! So if you send me a package, or if you are working on sending one. I would looove some ole spice. and photos of my fireman profile pic. annnnd a Football! Real one. Real size! But that is just a wish. I would love ole spice and my photo of fireman. Im so glad im out here serving the Lord. And im so lucky to be in Para. I know this Church is True without a doubt. I love you guys, and miss you a lot! Going to attempt to send photos! It betta work!! Tchau!
But I love you mom. Im having the time of my life! Have a great week! Hugs for all!
Tchau, Elder Arroyo

I was called SENIOR!/ Missao de milagres!

Ahh man, Its soo crazy thinking that jimmy is home. How is his enlgish? I cant imagine, Im at the point where I dont know a word in portuguese and english. Portuguese is taking over. Help him adjust back into the real world.
Mas this week guesss what!! I was called SENIOR! About time! 4 months here in brasil and im rolling the ranks here. :D Im hoping next transfer I get to train. Portuguese is definitly no longer a problem for me. It feels wierd to think that I never knew this language 8 months ago.
Ahh man, remember my marine haircut.. ahhh I have the biggest sunburn possible on my head. And starting to go down but ahh, its soo itchy. The sun is way too powerful here. Did the letters on jimmys tag turn yellow? Or wear off? lemme know.
We had a good baptism, on Saturday. He was definitly ready. Im so happy now that this area is baptising. Just needed patience and faith. Just like it says in the Book of Mormon...  hmm what else. Im still getting ripped out here. Im the only one that does exercises in the morning in this house. And I just look like Rocky Balboa haha. Anyways, My emails are getting lamer because I use to write down cool experiances in my planner when they happened, but ive been slacking. But i promise that ill start back again. We are taking a trip again to Castanhal (3 hour bus) for our zone meeting. We just pack a bag with clothes for 2 days and our hammocks and sleep in the zone leaders house. And next week I think next week, were going to belem for a conference. (6 hour bus ride) (or river boat) I love conferences! Get to meet up with all your buddies! And of course your receiving blessings mom! Youre raising children to serve missions. I wish I could hang out with jimmy but I still got a long trip ahead of me! :D But give jimmy a hug for me! everyone has seen my butt..

Hey mom. So this week.. So im just going to start off with a once (hoping once in a life time) experience... ha.. So last week there was a red thing about the size of a nickel on my left booty cheek haha. and I just thought it was something normal, and would go away in a couple days.. But with more days it got bigger and really red, and I couldnt even sit down anymore. So I showed my comp and the other people in my house (awkward).. and Lets just say its not normal... and my comp called Sister Campos and she told me to call the American doctor in Sao Paulo. So I called him and he told me that if it doesnt get better in a day go to the hospital. So it didnt get better, and I went to the hospital, and the doctor looked at it and said that its called something Amazonian. I dont remember. But he told me not to worry and gave me some medication that ive been taking, and its getting better. But its going to kill whatever is in there.. Anyways, everyone has seen my butt.. haha. But yea, thought I just just share that with you guys haha. Dont worry though. Hmmm, Nothing really happened this week. Our baptism bailed out on saturday cause he drank the day before, but that just means we;ll have more this saturday. Transfers are here, and were all staying here in Braganca. I havent received any letters. I dont know whats up with the mail. But my photography is good? thanks!! I have a lot of photos on my camera of me just messing around with the scenery and exotic fruits and things here. Ill share those with you when I get back. That would be sweet to work with photography. Tell Aunt Miriam, im totally up for it! And my hip is doing better. and my stomach is great. I cant wait to show you guys how to make a real shake or smoothie! I hope they have a lot of the same fruits back in walmart hah..I got my haircut today, and ahh man. I look like a marine.. haha he cut a 1 on the sides and a 2 on top. But it will grow back. Im going to start running tomorrow, with the other brasilian in the house every morning. But its kind of hard to run in the skate shoes that you sent me (cough cough) (hint hint). But whatevs. How is the ward doing? Any new baptisms? How are the missionaries? Are you excited for jimmy to come home? Dont forget about me when he gets back! Sorry for the lame email today, ?Next weeks will be better I promise. PS. I didnt bring my camera with me. I love you mom! Keep up the good work! Tchau tchau!
`~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~Ok,  have another 15 minutes. So when we go shopping here, Its no walmart, haha. Everyone brings in their crops vegetable fruits meats, everything natural that you can imagine and more. and they set up little booths. And you walk down this huge main street with what seems like thousands of people and cattle, and you just buy what you see. And what seems the freshest. Im getting pretty pro at picking the best fruits. The people start selling their stuff early in the morning, and pack up there things and go home or to a different city around 1 o clock. It makes buying fruits and food fun, I think haha.  I dont know how to explain it, But Ill take a picture of it next week. I love you guys, just thought I should add this in cause my email was pretty lame.. tchau thcau
